Nervous
system of cockroach
The
nervous system of cockroach is ganglionated type. Various ganglionic mass
located at different regions of body.
The
nervous system of cockroach is studied into two part.
1.
Central nervous system
2.
Peripheral nervous system.
1. Central
nervous system consists of supra-oesophageal ganglia, sub- oesophageal ganglia and ventral
nerve cord.
2. The
supra-oesophageal ganglia lies on dorsal side of oesophagous in head. The sub-pharyngeal
ganglia lies on ventral side of oesophagus.
3. The
supra- oesophageal ganglia and sub- oesophageal ganglia are connected by transvers
connection called as circum-oesophageal connective.
4. Ventral
nerve cord is formed by a series of fused, segmentally arranged ganglia joined
by paired longitudinal connectives beneath the alimentary canal ventrally.
5. The
ventral nerve cord consist of 9 segmental ganglia.
6. First
three ganglia are large, lies in thorax and remaining six are abdominal
ganglia.
7. supra-oesophageal
ganglion supplies nerves to antennae and compound eyes.
8. Each
abdominal ganglion control the respective segment.
9. Last or 6th ganglia is much larger formed by the fusion of 5 pairs of ganglia control last six segment
